One of the principal industries are forestry. 96% of forestry is coniferous. The tree they cut down the most is the hemlocks, and also the lodgepole pine and the spruce.
Agriculture is a other principal industry, it feeds the population and it is exported to some parts of the world.
Then there is mining.
Next is fishing in
Finally there is tourism. Tourism is getting better and better in

This years winter Olympics will be in British Columbia well in Vancouver ! There will be all the classic winter sports. The 3 mascots of the Olympics are: Sumi, Quatchi and Miga

Nanaimo bars
Nanaimo bars have originated from
Nanaimo, on Vancouver Island. The name comes from the city called Nanaimo in British Columbia.
It consite of a wafer crumb-based layer, toped by a layer of light vanilla or custard flavour butter icing wich is covered in chocolate made from melted chocolate squares.

Totems Poles
The totem are made of cedar trees. They represent family history.
The aboriginals did this art and passed it through generation
Most of the time it will be family memebers or animal faces.
Most of the time the colors used for the totem poles are red, yellow, black blue and white.
Famous People
Rick Hansen (1957)
Rick Hansen is a wheelchair athlete from Port Alberni and he raised 26 million dollars for spinal cord research and he called his charity Man in Motion. He did a tour around the world from 1985 to 1987.
Terry Fox (1958-1981)
Terry Fox was a cancer amputee. His leg was amputated. He cam e from Port Coquitlam. He raised million of dollars for cancer research by trying to run across Canada with only one leg! he died during his journey through Canada. It was the Marathon of Hope in 1980.
